2012 Jul 13

Abigail Dodd of Springfield was among the students recognized April 27 when the liberal arts college held its annual Celebration of Excellence, a daylong celebration that allowed students and faculty to take part in activities that commend academic excellence, a hallmark of the college since its founding in 1829.

Dodd, a sophomore, was awarded the Norman J. and Virginia Marsh Gore Education Scholarship, the Bernice Strubinger Memorial Scholarship in Education, and inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. The Norman J. and Virginia Marsh Gore Education Scholarship is awarded to an education major demonstrating outstanding scholarship, with preference given to a student from Decatur. The Bernice Strubinger Memorial Scholarship in Education is awarded to an education major entering the junior year planning to teach in public schools with preference to elementary teaching. Kappa Delta Pi is the education national honor society.

Dodd, a graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, is the daughter of Robert and Molly Dodd of Springfield.

Founded in 1829, Illinois College is a residential liberal arts college fostering academic excellence rooted in opportunities for experiential learning while preparing students for lifelong success.
