Alex Coad Among Illinois College Graduates

Alex Coad of White Hall was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois College May 13 during the college's 178th commencement exercise on the Historic Upper Quadrangle of the liberal arts college in Jacksonville.

Coad graduated with a degree in sociology. He is the son of Norman and April Coad of White Hall and a graduate of North Greene High School.

Illinois College has awarded diplomas annually since 1835 when it was the site of the first college commencement ceremony in the state. The newest class of graduates totaled 170.

Distinguished Professor of International Affairs at the U.S. Naval Academy and former U.S. Ambassador John Limbert delivered the commencement address and was awarded the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Illinois College alumnus James Bruner was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. The Illinois businessman and contractor served 20 years on the Illinois College Board of Trustees and provided the lead gift for the state-of-the art Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center.
