Cory Washington, a junior of Decatur, is serving as president of Straights & Gays for Equality (SAGE) at Illinois College for the 2011-2012 academic year.
The purpose of this organization is to increase general awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) issues. Straights and Gays for Equality also serves as a bridge between gay and straight members of the Illinois College community, encouraging unity, diversity and a greater understanding and acceptance of the GLBT community in society.
Washington, a graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School, is the son of Jimmy and Anita Washington of Decatur.
Founded in 1829, Illinois College is a residential liberal arts college fostering academic excellence rooted in opportunities for experiential learning while preparing students for lifelong success.
