2011 Nov 11

Jacob Phillips of Golden was one of three members of the Illinois College Computer Club (ICCC) who participated in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Mid-Central USA Programming Contest on November 5.

Phillips, a junior, is the son of Duane and Debra Phillips of Golden. He is a graduate of Camp Point Central High School.

The IC students were one of twenty teams participating at the University of Illinois Springfield site which included teams from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois Springfield, Illinois State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Washington University St. Louis, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Knox College.

The region included 141 teams from six states including Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The IC programmers finished twelfth at the site and eighty-second in the region.

"The problems seemed more difficult this year," said James Streib, Professor of Computer Science. "However, the team rose to the occasion and did a good job against tough competition."
