Lauren Reece Among Illinois College Graduates

Lauren Reece of Lombard was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois College May 13 during the college's 178th commencement exercise on the Historic Upper Quadrangle of the liberal arts college in Jacksonville.

Reece graduated summa cum laude with a degree in history and Spanish. She is the daughter of William and Janet Reece of Lombard and a graduate of Glenbard East High School.

Illinois College has awarded diplomas annually since 1835 when it was the site of the first college commencement ceremony in the state. The newest class of graduates totaled 170.

Distinguished Professor of International Affairs at the U.S. Naval Academy and former U.S. Ambassador John Limbert delivered the commencement address and was awarded the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Illinois College alumnus James Bruner was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. The Illinois businessman and contractor served 20 years on the Illinois College Board of Trustees and provided the lead gift for the state-of-the art Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center.
