Meaghan Karaffa Earns Prestigious Academic Award at Illinois College

Meaghan Karaffa of Girard was among the students recognized April 27 when the liberal arts college held its annual Celebration of Excellence, a daylong celebration that allowed students and faculty to take part in activities that commend academic excellence, a hallmark of the college since its founding in 1829.

Karaffa, a graduate, was awarded the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate, the Julian M. Sturtevant Campus Leadership and Service Award, and Outstanding Graduate in Computer Science. Presented annually to an outstanding senior from each of Illinois' four-year degree-giving institutions to honor a student's overall academic excellence and extracurricular activities. Awarded to outstanding graduating seniors who are visible leaders on campus and in the organization(s) they serve. Awarded to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the computer sciences.

Karaffa, a graduate of Girard High School, is the daughter of John and Carolyn Karaffa of Girard.
